Canoa, Ecuador
Garden Project
After the devastating earthquake in April 2016, we spent several weeks working in a camp for displaced, homeless families. We helped construct raised vegetable beds, and trained families on maintaining those gardens. At the time, our long time Friend Geoff Odell had become the camp’s director and saw how important it was to bring a nutritional value to the earthquake refugees by growing vegetables.
VidaRaiz FarmWorks answer the call and Marco Ulloa and Martin Camacho went down to build some raised beds, train individuals to plant organic vegetables. Although the garden does not exist now because the landowners ended up deciding to not lease or sell the land to the camp refugees so they attempt to restart their lives again; we believe that the effort we made to travel down to South America brought hope, encouragement and the opportunity to learn to build a sustainable community. Many people came down to Canoa to give their best efforts to help that local community and for that we are thankful.
